African SafariWhen you consider going on a safari in Africa you will normally think of journeying by jeep however, you might be pleasantly surprised to learn that we have other sorts of great options available.

1. Self Drive

For any knowledgeable adventurer, family groups and people on a budget a self drive safari throughout South Africa’s national parks (you are unable to self drive in the privately owned parks) will hold great appeal. A 2WD will probably be acceptable for travel for most parks although if you need to get off-road a 4WD will allow you to see more.

The downside for self drive is that you will lose out on the experience of a guide and still have to depend on your navigating expertise.

2. Hot Air Balloon

This sort of safari has become a best selling preference although they are certainly the more expensive safari form. Almost all balloon excursions last about an hour and they are typically come with either a champagne breakfast or supper(depending on the time of day you’re flying).

3. Trekking Safari

Usually for smaller groups, walking safaris range in length from one hour long typically in the am or early evening to day long treks with overnight lodge or safari tent accommodation.

These types of safaris are completely safe for the group is escorted by an armed guide. Imagine going for walks over the vast grassland and spotting a pride of lions and being able to watch them at close range!

4. Elephant Safari

There are quite a lot of game reserves that provide an elephant safari. The main benefit is that you are more likely to see game on top of an elephant because the wildlife will be more used to elephants than they are to people and vehicles.

A highly skilled elephant handler is in control and the safari normally lasts for 1 1/2 hours and often may also include food and drink. On a number of tours you may even be fortunate to get to stroll alongside the elephants-a really exceptional experience.

If perhaps elephants aren’t your thing then quite a few game reserves also offer safaris on horse-back.
